Superfoods are foods with a superior content of nutrition - they can be mainstream foods like asparagus (with its high amounts of liver-supporting glutathione), or less commonly-known to North Americans, such as raw cacao, goji berries, maca root or açai berry.
This recipe uses watercress, rich in iodine, as its leafy green, as well as goji berries (vitamin C, highest beta-carotene of any food, complete protein and methyl donor), chia seeds (high in omega 3 fatty acids and fiber), maca (adaptogenic root beneficial for hormone balance and improved energy), and raw cacao (super-high levels of antioxidants and tension-relieving magnesium.)
2 cups spring or filtered water
1/4 cup goji berries
1/4 cup frozen berries of your choice
1/2 frozen banana
1 tbsp. chia seeds
1 tsp. maca powder
2 tbsp. raw cacao
Add all ingredients to a blender and process until smooth.
