What is Kundalini Yoga?
Kundalini Yoga is one of the original and most powerful of the 22 schools of yoga. It is a practice that activates and balances our energy. The Sanskrit word “kundalini” refers to a primal energy (shakti) that is coiled at the base of the spine, at the root chakra. This technology precisely and consciously combines breath, mudra, eye-focus, mantra, body locks, and postures to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, and purify the blood. It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul.
The pace of change has been on the rise consistently over the past few decades, and the stress on our bodies’ nervous systems is increasing. The science of Kundalini Yoga allows us to tap into a technology that helps us cope with this escalating change.
Kundalini Yoga was previously a secret science taught only to a few selected students. In this way, the techniques were protected from being adulterated over time. It was maintained a secret oral tradition for thousands of years, passed down from teacher to student. The significance of the open sharing of this technology is monumental and revolutionary. Everyone can wake up and stay awake, not just an elite few. For this reason, Kundalini Yoga is called the Yoga of Awareness.
Our energy is extremely powerful. There is energy in our spoken words, in our texts and in our physical presence. When we function from a fearful, low-level energetic state, our thoughts and energy can literally pollute the world. When we exist from a place of positive energy, the world around us becomes more positive. Fear cannot coexist with love, and so we are able to dissolve all boundaries with love by taking responsibility for our own energy. We have the power to raise our energy and serve the world.
As a student and a teacher of Kundalini Yoga and meditation, I have the honor of sharing these transformational practices with you. Given the chaotic circumstances of our times, we need these practices more than ever. It’s a privilege to share them with you.
“Kundalini Yoga is…a practice of experience of a person’s own excellence, which is dormant and which is awakened.”
