Time for a Makeup Makeover?

Over 5 years ago, I stopped using soap on my face.  Looking back, that was one of the best upgrades I have added to my life since starting this healthy lifestyle journey.  It was Nadine Artemis of Living Libations who convinced me that stripping our precious facial skin of the oils it needs to be healthy was the way to go.  As many of you know, I've been using her SeaBuckthorn Best Skin Ever as both facial cleanser and moisturizer for years, and my skin has never been so clear.

Then I started thinking about my lipstick (we do eat some of it...), nail polish (super toxic), shampoo (it's going into my BRAIN for Pete's sake) and everything else under the bathroom sink.  I started upgrading (just like I did with my food) one at a time, and soon my cosmetic case was a lot lighter - and a lot cleaner!

It seems that we start making healthy choices when it comes to food, but upgrading our beauty products takes longer to become a priority.  This is ironic, considering first that the cosmetic industry is far less regulated than the food industry, and second, that most beauty products are applied directly to the skin (our largest organ), and absorbed immediately into the bloodstream.

Luckily, in this age of information, we have easy access to the facts.  Folks like the Environmental Working Group are working hard to bring us the truth about the products we consume regularly and often without thought.  Click here to access their cosmetic database and see how your beauty products measure up - it might just be time for a makeup makeover...
